SELF-ESTEEM AND
SELF-COMPASSION
We are not perfect.
Self-compassion can be a way of helping or minding yourself when things have gone wrong. For example, maybe you have made a mistake in school or argued with someone in your family and now you feel sorry or shame about that.
Self-compassion means that you will be kind to yourself and recognise that you made a mistake and try to forgive yourself for it. It can mean recognising that something is not in your control.
It also means asking for someone’s help with fixing a problem if you can. The best of Travellers can make mistakes and because of this we can all need a helping hand to manage something that has happened.
- Remember no one is perfect, we are human and make mistakes.
- It is important to remember you are only human and just try to do something to fix the mistake if you can.
- Try to give yourself a break and ask for help when you need it
While it is positive to have good self-esteem, it is also very important for our mental health to have self-compassion as it allows you to ask for help and to understand that we are just like everyone else.
If you need to talk to someone about how you are feeling check out the services and supports.
